Ponyboy evolved a great deal throughout the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Ponyboy evolved from thinking that the socs had everything to understanding their situation and admitting to himself that he no longer hates the socs. For instance, “It wasn’t fair for the socs to have everything.” (Hinton 47) This shows how in the beginning Ponyboy did not understand the socs individual struggles. Ponyboy had not learned yet in this point in the book that thing were rough all over. He also believed that at this point the socs could get away with anything. Secondly, “I remembered Cherry’s voice: Things are rough all over. I knew then what she meant.” (Hinton 117) Lastly, “I don’t hate the socs anymore.” (Hinton 143) In conclusion, Ponyboy’s feelings
