There are two entities in this world, the community and the individual. Both “The Lottery” and “The Ones Who Walk Away from the Omelas” deal with the issues of individuals giving up their own distinct values and conforming to their group’s identity. Likewise they both raise the issue of when people, who are in these cult-like setting, who don’t speak up against the injustices they witness and simply allow the same actions to occur for an outrageous number of years. The people who participate in the events in both stories are like cows being led to the slaughter. Most in these stories do not even seem to notice the immoral actions going on around them. Both stories revolve around an old tradition that dictates that someone is hurt
