The controversy surrounding Taylor Swift’s video “Wildest Dreams” does represent a visual imagery of a white colonial fantasy of Africa. However, Swift herself is not necessarily to blame behind the controversial romanticised perception of Africa in her music video. The people behind the idea for Swift’s music video should have done research to have an accurate depiction of African countries displayed, as well as, understanding the possible reactions that the video could result in. Additionally, Swift ended the video with an advertisement that announced she will donate all video proceeds to the African Parks Foundation of America charity; however, nothing in the video displayed any reason for why this charity was an important cause for donation.
