The performance that I attended occurred at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for Performing Arts.The Missouri State University Symphony Orchestra put on a concert there. The performance started at 7:30PM, and they let out around 9:00PM. This was Dr. Christopher Kelts first year as conductor, he did an exceptional job! The two musical pieces that were played were Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila by Mikhail Glinka and Symphony No. 5, Op. 65 by Tchaikovsky. The first piece was not very long; however, the musical score by Tchaikovsky was great in length. The first work that was performed was called Overture to Rusland and Ludmila, it was written and performed during the Romanticism period of music. The instruments used: violins, viola, cello, double bass, flute, piccolo, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion. All of the instruments that make up the orchestra. The mood is happy and excited. The music makes me feel energetic. The music starts to increase in speed which is called accelerando. The symphony is composed of four movements: andante, andante, valvse, The symphony starts out in adante; however, during the first movement the tempo accelerando. The music made me feel sad towards the beginning because I could tell that there was a dark theme present. I am unable to say what meter this song is played in; although, I believe it is quintuple meter. The texture of the piece is polyphonic. The moods seemed to change suddenly in each movement.
