Suspense is a literary term that is used by the author to created a state of uncertainty or excitement waiting for the outcome of the story. Suspense occurred in "The Soft Rain" when "an explosion" (4 Bradbary) happen in the house. The reader, begins to think about what is left of the house. For example, have all the rooms been destroyed and is the house no longer working. Also, with the explosion happening you know that the house is damaged, but as the reader, you don't know the extent of damanged occurred. Another example of suspense in the story happened when the author wrote "one wall stood alone" (4 Bradbury).
