I would say that 'Holy crap' fiction is something that not only provokes a strong reaction from a reader but that provokes a discussion on a wider basis usually breaking into mainstream media. Most likely the strong reaction is due to taboo or controversial subjects (such as The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick) or books that commentate on social issues. The Hunger Games by Susanne Collins would be a good example of 'holy crap' fiction, as it provides both the controversial subject of children dying for entertainment whilst also tackling relevant issues of capitalism and society's obsession with media. I would argue that many 'holy crap' fiction becomes commercialised quite eaily as it is easier for these controversial topics to be
