The poem I choose was The Summer I was Sixteen, written by Geraldine Connolly. In summary, this poem is about her and her friend are not getting the eyes of the boys, instead they swim, sunbathe, sing and dance to the music coming from the old radio, and eat hot dogs and cotton candy. It was summertime they didn’t have a care in the world and they are living that summer the best it can be. The main message that I got from it was, that you are not young forever, take time to hang out with your bestfriend and having no worries. This poem describes a perfect summer for an average teenage girl, with the sunbathing, swimming, and eating fun foods such as cotton candy.
