The narrator of Sonny’s Blues never give himself a name in the whole article, but he really got himself playing the main role by making the story told in his own perspective of views. In my opinion the character made an unjust choice. The narrator is seven years older the sonny. When sonny was little, he had always being a big-brother-like brother, takes care of sonny; tells him to go to school and what instrument is better for him to play; sorts of keeps him out of troubles. I can see his love to sonny but when sonny grew up. He made a mistake, being arrested for peddling and using heroin. Ever since then, the narrator seem to turn his love into hate, and patience into impatience. He let go of Sonny as in not caring anymore, even after Sonny…show more content…
Maybe because of this, Sonny became a more curious of “outside world” which might be the leading cause of his mistakenly using of heroin. He repeatedly used the word grinned for description of people’s laugh. This tells something about his state of mind. He tent to be an optimistic person, but somewhere down his mind wouldn’t allow him to fully express his emotions. It’s like he’s been holding a breath of emotions. His career, a high school algebra teacher, may also tell that he is a stereotype person who has his/her everyday life blueprinted and follows it and don’t easier go for a different path. In the end of the story, when he was invited to attend Sonny’s play in a bar, and watching his little brother performing in the center of the bar and describing how everybody gathered and enjoyed his performance. He didn’t say anything like Sonny made it or he is proud of Sonny. But I can tell then when he ask one of the waitress to bring Sonny the drink, he was truly proud of his little brother’s accomplishment. It wasn’t something really big, but it was something things Sonny had been trying to
