The headphones sector of the technology industry is a steadily growing industry which has a projected growth of 8.4% between the years 2009-2014. The growth is projected to continue to increase due to the increased popularity of mobile devices. The industry’s revenue is also projected at around $2 billion. Since Skullcandy focuses only on the manufacturing headphones they have a large variety of different of products. They produce on-ear and over-head phones, while also producing in-ear buds. They are sponsors of many actions sport athletes who participate in Motocross, surfing, snowboarding, and skateboarding. Skullcandy has developed special designs and styles of products and affiliated them with specific action sport and professional sport figures which include professional skateboarder Eric Koston. Skullcandy also partners with other companies and makes headphones and ear buds with the other company’s logo. Some of the companies that have partnered with Skullcandy include Paul Frank, Realtree, MLB, NBA, and many professional soccer teams. Skullcandy also sponsors professional athletes which include professional basketball players Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose, professional soccer player Tiago Silva, and professional football player Stevie Johnson. Skullcandy does very well in the selling of its ear buds with its main product being the Skullcandy INK’D. As for the headphone industry Skullcandy along with every other headphone producer are being dominated by the release of the Beats headphones which are now owned and produced by Apple.
