Born in 1920, Sister Rose Thering was a courageous and strong-minded Roman Catholic nun who battled against the horrors of prejudice and bigotry that have unceasingly plagued this world. Throughout her lifetime, Sister Rose was exposed to anti-Semitic prejudice. Nonetheless, she did not instantaneously accept the notion that those of the Jewish faith murdered the Messiah. Contrarily, Sister Rose educated herself about the roots of anti-Semitism, becoming familiar with the Jewish culture and developing a love for Jews. Thering became an activist against anti-Jewish sentiments, exposing the faults of the Catholic Church. Accordingly, Sister Rose Thering’s campaign against prejudice and bigotry influenced me to minimize the injustices that I am exposed to. My efforts to reduce bigotry and prejudice will entail eradicating intolerance within myself to set an example for the world.…show more content…
This alteration resulted from her curiosity about the cause of anti-Jewish sentiments. Regarding her attempt to improve relationships between Jews and Christians, Thering asserted, “An understanding and an appreciation of Jews and Judaism... helps me personally. I hope and pray to become a better person, a better Christian.” Correspondingly, Sister Rose has inspired me to educate myself about the beliefs of groups that are prejudiced against so that I can mature in my faith and in my relationships with those of disparate backgrounds. In addition, Sister Rose influenced me to avoid judging people and groups according to accepted opinions. Her perseverance has instilled a passion for knowledge in me and has prompted me to be increasingly open-minded toward others to eliminate bigotry within
