Sam McGee is a gold digger from Tennessee who has come to the Yukon in search of gold. Sam is miserable in the Yukon’s cold weather, and he cries over leaving his home. Sam is special because of his weird sense of humor and his crazy actions, he feared of being cold even after he dies. Sam’s behavior in the poem adds laughter and experiences for the readers, especially when the speaker opens the furnace door after cremating Sam to find him alive and warming up with the fire.
