I want to attend a relatively small private school in an urban area with a challenging academic curriculum and thought-provoking courses. The opportunities I would receive at SMU to participate in exceptional undergraduate research and to develop personal relationships with my professors are priceless. SMU also has my first-choice major, Biochemistry. When I toured SMU, I fell in love with the gorgeous campus and friendly students. While I am a student at SMU, I hope to step out of my comfort zone. I have lived in the same house for seventeen years, gone to the same church for seventeen years, and attended to the same school for fourteen years. I feel as if I have lived in a “Northeast Jackson bubble” for my entire life, and I am ready to experience…show more content… Through Accents, I have made life-long friends with a variety of girls both in my class and in other classes. Throughout the day, I never see most of the Accents because very few of them are in any of my AP and honors classes, none of them are on the Quizbowl, Math/Science Competition, or Cross-Country teams, so through Accents I have made friends that I probably would not have known otherwise. Being an Accent requires a huge time commitment along with high expectations. All Accents have to maintain a certain GPA, and I have tutored multiple Accents who are struggling in a class, so they will be able to perform on Friday night. All the younger Accents look up to the senior Accents as well as the entire student body. During the summer, the Accents lead a camp for K3-6th grade girls for a week where we teach the girls how to march, kick, and dance like an Accent. The Accents also lead a program called Little Accents during football and basketball seasons for K4-3rd grade girls. The Accents teach the girls a dance to perform at halftime of the games and the girls get to wear a sparkly uniform like the real Accents. Accents have practice every weekday for two hours along with a two week all day camp during the summer. The commitment sometimes beings as early as 5:00 a.m. especially during a big rivalry game week. During “Prep” week, I arrive at school before daylight to…show more content… The opportunities I would receive at Tulane to participate in exceptional undergraduate research and to develop personal relationships with my professors are priceless. I have always had Tulane on my “college radar” solely based on the fact that my father attended Tulane. While working at Camp Bear Track last summer, I became close friends with a fellow counselor, Christie, who attends Tulane. Christie invited me to come stay with her for the weekend, so I decided to come stay and have a tour of the campus. Before I came to campus, I scouted out Tulane’s website. I found that Tulane has great academic flexibility, so I could easily double major in Molecular Biology and Chemistry. I also looked at all of the courses required for my majors, and I looked at the descriptions of the courses and was excited to take all of the required courses, except physics. When I toured Tulane, I fell in love with the gorgeous campus and friendly students. At Tulane, I will know a few people, but I will also have the opportunity to branch out and meet new people. When I toured campus, I met several students from all over the country, and I really enjoyed the diverse student body. I feel that I would benefit from meeting students from other parts of the United States as well as from other countries. While I am a student at Tulane, I hope to step out of my
