Analytical Essay Richard Russell Riordan Jr. better known as Rick Riordan is The New York Times bestselling American author of the Percy Jackson and Olympians series. Rick was born on June 5, 1964, which makes him 50 years old. Rick grew up in Texas and attended Alamo Heights High School. He was the graduating class of 1982. Rick has always had an interest in mythology and Detective since he was in middle school. These traits inspired him to write the books he writes today. Rick writes various books and genera’s like Mythology, Fantasy, Detective, and Fiction. Rick did not like reading when he was in school. Not until about 11-12 years old he became interested and started to read books only about fantasy. “It took me a while to find the right books to read, and a lot of support from my teachers”. Rick started writing in middle school and submitted his first story when he was 13, for the publication. But sadly it did not get published. His students often wondered why he did not writes books for kids. At the time he only wrote adult books. He never really had a good answer for them. It took his a long time to wonder why he wasn’t writing for kids. Later he realize that children were the best audience. For fifteen years, Rick taught English and history at public and private middle schools in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Texas. In 2002, Saint Mary's Hall honored him with the school's first Master Teacher Award. Riordan made a "reluctant" decision to leave teaching, a career he very much enjoyed. However, he's keeping his hand in education by conducting lots of author appearances in classrooms across the country, and even some in Europe. "I love teaching," says Riordan.
