The cooped up animals, like humans also suffer from the stress of being in a small space. Not only do they suffer from stress, but also from physical and mental problems associated with not being able to be out in the open. Beef cattle and dairy cows are supposed to be raised out in the open, yet they are stuck in feedlots. The life of a factory animal ends quickly, it doesn’t even last a year. The stress they suffer from lasts less than a year and it starts as soon as they are born. They suffer from giving birth one after another until of course they are either turned into food or they die from not receiving any medical attention. Some of the animals may even suffer from claustrophobia, because they spend most of their life in tights spaces,…show more content… Van Amburgh says that people are against the cruelty against animals because they feel a sympathy towards them thanks to the media. Professor Michael Van Amburgh talks about how the people don’t understand why the practices at factory farms are performed. Van Amburgh explains that because people don’t live near a factory farm, they have a negative misconception about what actually happens inside. Van Amburgh says that the public view of animals is based on the allocation of human qualities on animals. Mostly because people see animals on the media, this makes them feel like they need to treat the animals better at factories. This is important because it explains why “Factory Farming” carries a negative connotation. This is examines the way people get the notion that animals are being abused, that there are malpractices in factories and that they should live in better conditions. Yet many people believe that if it wasn’t for factory animals we wouldn’t be able to eat. They believe that if there is more food being produced there will be less hunger, the more food there is, the less hungry people there are. The bigger the production of food, the less demand there is for food. This means that the larger the amount of food that is produced from factory farms the more food the people would have to eat and not be hungry or to at least decrease the amount of people that are hungry. The more production of meat there is the lower the prices of a type of meat on the market is. This would be caused by the overproduction f meat that cannot be sold for the same high price because there is too much of it. Prices are lower, more people are able to buy more food or can now buy food. There would be less hungry people because the food sold would be now affordable to them.
