Eric Jensen’s message is that teachers need to appreciate that just because a student suffers from poverty does not mean they cannot learn and perform at the same level as other students. These students might need a little more help and guidance, but that is the teachers job. Statistics show that 40% of 3 year olds living in poverty have issues in at least two areas. (Jensen, 7, 2009) Teachers need to understand that a students life at home may be very different of their peers. They might live in a crowded, noisy environment with little resources and support.
