Personal Narrative: My Visit To The Brooklyn Museum Of Art

Since learning about Egypt and its’ art, I recently visited the Brooklyn Museum of Arts for the very first time to view the different pieces of art within the Egyptian gallery. My primary purpose for this trip wasn’t just to view each piece but also pick one that stood out to me and write about it, with that, I also wanted to gain experience for myself in witnessing some of those art sculptures and pieces that I have only been seeing on the internet and textbooks. Circling the gallery I found myself being hooked on multiple pieces, ultimately I found one and will give a descriptive observation of the piece I chose. NAME AND DATE OF THIS PIECE: The Kneeling of Statuette of Pepy I, was the piece I decided on. MATERIALS AND TOOLS USED: Greywacke, alabaster, obsidian and copper This statue is of a king painted black kneeling on what resembles tablet. He is wearing a headdress that is resting flat on his chest area, the top of the headdress has strips going vertically from front to back whilst the sides has horizontal strips. Pepy I have an oval or roundish face an unusual hole placed directly in the middle of his forehead, which indicates he once had it filled with materials. His eyebrows are thick, arched and stretches all the way to his big ears. The eyes are oval and wide open as though he is staring right at another person, they are also marked with eyeliner which are drawn far back aligning them with his eyebrows. The nose is very slender with a round-tip, high and full cheekbones and a slight smile, therefore safely assuming the king
