July 18, 1998 was a very important day for my parents and the start of my life, so I thought. Two weeks in the wake of returning home from the hospital my mother noticed a distinction in my breathing. My parents had taken me to Urgent Care and I was diagnosed with having three holes in my heart. My parents promptly arrived at New Hanover Regional Hospital, which confirmed the diagnosis of the apertures. The physician informed my parents that I was about to go into cardiac arrest; therefore, I needed to get to Chapel Hill as soon as possible. The physicians at Chapel Hill were extremely accommodating in giving my parents their personal cell phone numbers to contact them when they arrived with police escorts.
