A unicorn is a mythical animal generally depicted with the body and head of a horse, the hind legs of a stag, the tail of a lion, and a single horn in the middle of the forehead (Merriam- Webster, 2014). There are many interpretations of the symbolization of a unicorn from many different countries from past generation and generations to come. After researching, I found the marine organism Narwhal takes part of many legends and myths, due to its unicorn like feature. The uniqueness and tusk feature have led many individuals from different cultures, researchers, and sea explorers to hunt, theses marine organism for its tusk value. In 1577, Martin Frobisher corrected the position of the horn by stating that it was pointing forward (Whales.findoutnow.org, 2009). “In many regions of the world, including Europe and East Asia, people believed that the horns of unicorns had magical powers (Kendall,)”. The tusk of the narwhal brought much attention to many individuals around the world from sea explores, researchers, and scientist. Depending on the different cultures around the world the tusk had many different uses such as jewelry, weapons, gifts, preventing aging, cure illness, and many more. Some cultures used the tusk as a cup and believed that by drinking from the tusk it would treat and cure illness. According to Arctic Studies during the 16th century, Queen Elizabeth of England received a tusk, which tusk value was equal value of a castle, and she used the tusk as a sceptre (Arctic Studies, 2004).
