Company Overview Monsanto is one of the largest agricultural corporations in the world, and they are based out of St. Louis, Missouri, U.S. The company specializes in agricultural biotechnology, and is the leading manufacturer of genetically engineered seeds and weed killers. The company was formed in 1901 in St. Louis, Missouri by a man named John Francis Queeny and he was married to Olga Mendez Monsanto, and the company was named after his wife. In 1901, when the company was first formed, the company was not originally an agricultural company. The company’s first product was chemical saccharin, which is artificial sweetener similar to aspartame used today, that was sold to Coca-Cola in the early 1900’s.
