Marybeth's The Mansion

The Mansion, a boarding house is one of the places associated with Marybeth because she works there, against her father's will, by doing this, she is breaking tradition and leaning towards modernity. Marybeth is most prominent in pages 35 and 124 because she is thanked for her presence because people see that she has a purpose and that she is breaking away from tradition and finally being a modern woman. Marybeth is vital to the time period and cultural conflicts because she is one of the many in the book who goes through initiation because of their different opinions and they're feeling about modernity. Marybeth relates to most YA themes because she goes through them herself and helps others with their initiation process such as Peter Sykes.
