The main objective of the camp was to exterminate all the Jewish people, and other perceived enemies of the Nazi, often using gas chambers or torturing people with slave labor. The statistics reveal that between 1940 and 1941 1,095,000 Jews were deported to Auschwitz, of whom 960,00 died. German police officials targeted thousands of political opponents including Communists, Socialists, trade unionists, and religious dissidents. Many of these individuals dies as a result of incarceration and maltreatment. Earlier in the years of the Nazi regime, the national socialist government established concentration camps to detain real and imagined political and ideological prisoners. The unfit prisoners were marched to a room and told to undress.
