The Help by Kathryn Stockette is an amazing book that explains the hardships between caucasian people and African American maids and the rights that they have in Mississippi during the 1960’s. In this book there are several reviews from African American women of all ages that are maids, and how they feel about the rights they don and do not have. “Miss Sketter” is the girl that is the foundation of the book and sets the extravagant mood the “grabs” you when you read it. There are some maid’s stories I want to talk about but the main one is Abileen who in the book and movie decides to be the first to tell Skeeter about how she feels about working with the white families and basically raising their children for them without getting the credit that is well deserved. In the book The…show more content… Abileen is a very courageous woman who was the first to agree to telling Skeeter how her life was all the way back to the first family that she was a maid for, she told of her love of God and how she lost her son. This is a wonderful book that tells of the discrimination and actions of the people in the 1960’s, this makes you think about how much you have and the options and decisions you can make for yourself. It makes you realize that life is good and we have nothing to complain about. The ending of the book made me smile but to get the same affect you have to read to book.
