It is said by sources ranging from video games to four star Generals that war never changes. Just by observing our historical background we find that statement to be true. Although irregular warfare has been fought throughout history, how we respond to it must adapt and evolve quicker than our current and future enemies. To ensure that we continue to successfully respond to irregular threats, I believe we must instill judgement, initiative and knowledge into our junior Marines to make them most effective. Good judgement can either garnish the support of the American people and help the enemy realize they are fighting people as oppose to monsters. An enemy who realizes this is more likely to have less heart when fighting which could mean the difference between yielding and fighting when given the chance. Conversely, bad judgement can equate to less respect from the American people and an enemy that will fight to the death due to fear. Judgement affects much more than just the attitudes of the masses, it also affects the choice and the time in which we cast them on the battlefield.
