Juan applies for a job as a censor because he wanted to intercept his own letter. As stated, Juan did not want to apply for the job simply because he wanted to. In order to take back his letter, he needed to work at the Post Office’s Censorship Division. As a result, when Juan applied for the job, it reveals to the audience his character and personality. He is a thoughtful person, who he tried to get the job because he did not want to jeopardize Mariana’s safety. He knew through his letter, it might disturb her peace in Paris.
