Early life and influences Jessica Mauboy was born on 4 August 1989 (age 25), in Darwin, Australia. She was raised with 4 other siblings which are all older than her and lived with her parents and grandmother. Her passion for singing started when she started to attend a choir church with her grandmother. She went to Wulagi Primary School and Sanderson High School for her school years. Jessica grew up listening to country music by Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton as well as some rappers Dr Dre and Tupac Shakur, she loved to play the piano while singing to Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. Every time she perform she must have been nervous and it must have been a big challenge and also the auditions must of been the biggest challenge in Australian idol. Also being in the movie ‘the sapphires’ and the movie ‘Bran Nue Dae’ filming and also having to record music must have been tuff. Some of her popular songs are: Pop a bottle, Never be the same, Galaxy, can I get a moment, inescapable, Gotcha and something’s got a hold on me. My favourite song of Jessica Mauboy’s is can I get a moment! Accomplishes Jessica came runners up in Australian idol in 2006 and got a contract with Sony music and recorded an album. Mauboy has been awarded 32 awards out of 80 nominations. She won to Aria awards, NT Indigenous Music Awards, two Nickelodeon Australian Kids' Choice Awards, Australian of the year and lots more awards! She also was in the movie ‘the sapphires’ as one of the lead roles (Julie). She won an award called AACTA Award best the best actress when she was in the Sapphires movie.
