When is bullying justifiable? Would it be allowed in certain situations? Most people would say that all bullying is wrong and unacceptable. However, this behavior is still prominent today. Jamie Nabozny, a middle school student in the 1980’s, was bullied constantly by others because he was openly gay. After enduring years of constant teasing and physical harassment with no help from the school administration, Jamie finally decided to go to court and sue the staff for allowing him to be bullied. He won the case, and now serves as an inspiration to others struggling just like he was. The documentary Bullied teaches others to persevere and stand up for their beliefs, no matter the oppression they face. The documentary teaches others to be diligent and persevere even through tough situations. Jamie endured many hardships in his life, but still found the courage to return to school and stand up against what he knew was unfair. Although there were many times where he wanted nothing but to stay away from school, he still faced his bullies each day with determination. This helped Jamie reach his current success. Jamie was clear in stating his sexuality. He did not care to keep it a secret and boldly let others know. Although this is what led to his bullying problem, it shows a great amount of confidence. Many queer children today keep their identity or sexuality secret in fear of being picked on. This willingness also appeared when he decided to make the lawsuit. Suing the staff would be a risky endeavor because of their influence and the case’s uniqueness. If Jamie did not win, the whole matter would fall apart. However, he still decided to go forth with the lawsuit, believing it would make a difference. These brave actions serve as examples to how others need the courage to firmly stand for what they believe
