This quote, in the perspective of Laureth, shows how she gets Benjamin to read over and over again the pages of her dad’s journal in order to find clues. Once again, Benjamin is the savior. Without his seven year old reading capability, they wouldn’t know where to go, what to do, or how to do it. Benjamin is way beyond his years and responsibility whether he knows it or not because he is basically taking care of himself and his sister in the huge city of New York City at only seven years
