“I think that music is still art, even if it’s commercialized.”, believes 24-year-old Australian rapper Iggy Azalea. Iggy Azalea, born Amethyst Amelia Kelly, was born on June 7, 1990 in Sydney, Australia. Her family moved to Mullumbimby, New South Wales, when she was still an infant. Her father is Brendon Kelly, however, her mother is unknown. She started her career as a rapper in 2010. Iggy Azalea is highly influenced by rap, became a successful rapper, and has done other things that has helped her career. Iggy Azalea started becoming interested in rap the age of eleven. This happened when she first heard Tupac Shakur’s “Baby Don’t Cry (Keep Ya Head Up II)”. “It was the song that made me fall in love with music and also what sparked my Tupac fascination. Her career began to develop when she uploaded a music video for her song “Pu$$y” to her YouTube channel. She later reached out to Southern rapper T.I. for the direction of her debut album. She titled her debut album The New Classic, hoping to release it in the summer of 2012. However, Interscope Records did not allow T.I. to be an on-going part of her deal. She did not sign with Interscope Records and stayed independently signed to Grand Hustle Records until the release of her album, which had been postponed.
