As we read this story, we notice that the theme had been variously stated as the reality of sin, the occurrence of evil and the secret sin and hypocrisy of all people. The hypocrisy of Puritanism in which resulted in doubt or disbelief. Yes we do believe that everyone in this town is secretly corrupt with sin. Young Goodman Brown was born into being raised by Puritans but he does notice that his mentors are going against everything they have thought him. For example, when he went to the witch meeting he noticed the welcoming smile that gleamed darkly on every visage.
