Epic of Gilgamesh
Even though The Epic of Gilgamesh was written somewhere around 4,000 years ago, so many aspects that are incorporated in the poem are still true to this day, but there are also some differences as well. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, their relationships with their gods is severely different than ours in my opinion. The gods are kind of spiteful and mean and really not very stereotypical “god-like”. They tend to be vengeful, and extremely emotional. In today’s day in age, we look at “God” as the greatest thing ever and can do no wrong. That was not the case back in Gilgamesh’s time however. They also had many different gods, and had people like Gilgamesh who were actually part God.
One aspect that is in Gilgamesh that is still…show more content… Due to the friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu, they both end up becoming better people. Gilgamesh was not liked by his people and was a tyrant, but because of his friendship with Enkidu, it balanced him out and he learned from him and became a better person, and in turn, a better leader. That is still a big part of today’s society and I think that’s why there is so many friendships that are formed between two completely different people, but work so well. For example, I tend to be quiet and more reserved than the normal person, while all my closest friends tend to be loud and want all the attention on them. It balances well, because I sit back and let them have the attention. If we were both loud and wanted attention, it wouldn’t work out so well because we would be fighting for the attention. I feel like that is a lot like the friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu, Enkidu was a wild man, while Gilgamesh was a tyrant, and they leveled each other out in the end.
The Epic of Gilgamesh had a few similarities to the first 11 chapters of the Bible that are note-worthy. One example, is the role of the snakes. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, the snake is the one who steals the herb that would restore his youth and the people in his town’s youth. This does however end up being a good thing for Gilgamesh, as he finally realizes that he cannot be immortal and gives up trying to find a way. In the Bible,
