Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” This quote is the most famous from Ronald Reagan’s chilling speech delivered upon the Berlin Wall before the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany on June 12, 1987. The Berlin Wall was a physical, concrete boundary that separated East Germany and West Germany: East Germany being under the control of Russia, the Soviet Union at the time, and West Germany under the control of the United States of America, France, and Great Britain. The wall began construction on August 13th, 1961 until its anticipated fall on November 9th, 1989. The fall of the Berlin Wall altered the world completely because it led Germany to reunify as one country, it ended the Cold War, and it symbolized the fall of communism.
