It’s the year 2081 in Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Everyone is forced to be equal. Hazel and George have a son, Harrison, who was taken to jail due to his strength, intelligence, and appearance being over “average” according to the government. Hazel, Harrison’s mom, is a perfectly average citizen, meaning that she can’t think about anything except in short outbursts. But George, Harrison’s dad, has intelligence above average. He must wear a small mental handicap radio in his ear that sends sharp noises to keep people like George from taking advantage of their brains.
Hazel and George are watching ballet on television when it gets interrupted by an emergency announcement. Harrison Bergeron has escaped from jail! Right after the report,
