Due to burning of massive amounts of fossil fuels, global warming is increasing, sea levels are rising, ice caps are melting and many species are on the brink of extinction. Humans are the main cause of these problems we’re facing today, this is because we keep polluting the earth and we don’t look after it as much as we’re supposed to. Some of the pro’s of using solar energy are, solar energy is good for the environment, long term savings can wear out the initial cost and solar energy is an important alternative whenever possible. Although the pro’s of solar energy are very beneficial to us today, there are some con’s to using solar energy. Some of the con’s are that some parts of the world don’t receive much sun, batteries are expensive and a source of pollution, this makes some of the benefits of clean energy lost due to the pollution from the batteries. Although solar energy has it’s cons, it’s a very good way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as it doesn't pollute the earth as much as burning fossil fuels does. The solar photovoltaic cell are what solar panels are basically made of. This cell converts the solar energy into electricity. This electricity then charges a battery inside the solar panel which remains on standby. Then as the sun goes down the battery starts up and provides electricity while the sun is down. This battery provides the energy by starting to use up the charge which it gained while the sun was up during the
