Gladiatorial combat and contemporary football are both organized physical activities that involves participation, physical training and entertaining spectators, but, differ in some aspects. Gladiators was often trained by retired professional gladiators, specifically skilled with combat and weaponry. Similarly, contemporary football athletes are trained by coaches, who were a retired football athlete or had some experience playing football. However, contemporary football athletes training does involved different plays and drills, but not combat and weaponry like the gladiators. In addition, trainings were held in football fields and gym facilities, with modernized equipment. Unlike contemporary football athletes, gladiators used wooden equipment for training.
