Gene Forrester Character Analysis

Gene Forrester is a 140-pound, five-foot-eight-and-a-half, sixteen year old boy, attending Devon School. He is fairly good at sports, but is lanky. Gene is very smart, and works very hard, when he’s not being interrupted by Finny. Gene is introverted, but he seems more social because he hangs out with Finny frequently. As he says in chapter one, “...I said sarcastically. I said a lot of things sarcastically that summer; that was my sarcastic summer, 1942.”
Gene’s main downfall is his jealousy directed toward Finny. He feels as though he is overshadowed by Finny’s sport-ability and charismatic nature. This leads Gene to be incredibly paranoid, eventually leading to Gene impulsively jouncing the limb he stands on. Unlike Finny, Gene wasn’t as
