The film Good Will Hunting is about a man, Will, who is more or less a genius. Will is an orphan, and doesn’t have very much money. Because he doesn’t have a lot of money, he could not afford to go to college. This did not stop Will from wanting to learn and challenge himself. He has a photographic memory, so what he does read sticks with him. Will works as a janitor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. One of the professors posts a math equation on a bulletin board as a challenge for his students to solve. When Will anonymously solves it, the professor gives an even harder equation to challenge the mysterious brilliant mind. Will also solves this equation, but gets caught in the process. The first few therapists that Will sees, he makes a joke of and they all run off. Out of desperation, the professor turns to his old college roommate and therapist Sean. Will challenges Sean, and after a few pointless sessions, he finally gets through to Will and gets him to open up. Through their sessions, Sean shares the story of how he fell in love with and then lost his wife to cancer. Will, in turn shares his relationship with Skylar, and some of his past. The professor starts to push Will to get a job, but Will makes a joke out of each interview he is set up to go to. After Skylar asks Will to move to California with her, Will pushes her away and tells her about his abusive past growing up. After this, Sean is really able to break through to Will about his past by sharing his own abusive past. This pushes Will over the edge, and he finally breaks down about the abuse he went
