TITLE:- EFFICACY OF A Ferula asafoetida linn FORMULATION IN MOUSE MODELS OF LEARNING AND MEMORY: “COGNITIDA” STUDY
Asafoetida which is also known as Ferula Asafoetida Linn is the dried latex extracted from the tap root of the Ferula plant .It is known to possess medicinal qualities Asafoetida resin is produced by solidifying juice that comes out of cuts made in the plant’s living roots which is then dried and powdered. The commercially available powder form is used for flavouring in Indian cuisine. Asafoetida is known to improve memory and learning from previous studies1 . This study is to elucidate the mechanism of action of asafoetida in improving memory and operant learning .

The Novelty Preference Test will be evaluated using Y maze and SMART video tracking software; Passive Avoidance Response (PAR) will be evaluated using Shutavoid software and a shuttle box. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) Inhibition will be compared with known inhibitors of the enzyme (Donepezil) in order to elucidate the probable mechanism of action of asafetida in cholinergic system.
