386 Words2 Pages
When does the price of something get too much? If the object or goal is what a person dreams of, the price is never too high to pay. Santiago goes through several instances where he has to pay a price in order to fulfill his dream. The first is the most obvious in the first part of the novel, when Santiago has to work for the Crystal merchant to either pay for the next leg of the journey or go back home and buy more sheep. The other instance is when Santiago gives away some of his sheep to the king in exchange for his advice and directions to his treasure. These are two instances where Santiago has to pay a price to fulfil his dream. In the first instance Santiago gives away some of his flock to the king for his advice in finding the treasure.
