As a social worker, you are always interacting with different people and dealing with various issues. In order to be good at this profession, one must follow guidelines, and make sure they are being ethical. The core values of social work as mentioned in the NASW Code of Ethics, are service, social justice, dignity and worth of people, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence (NASW, 2015). It is very important that these become and remain valued by all social workers. Valuing all of these will help prepare social workers to truly make positive changes and impact the world. Having bad relationships with people can only lead to unhappiness and being lonely and miserable. Having people around that you are close with is always great for when something need to get done. Collaborating with others can make work and projects be more creative and thoughtful. It is not healthy to be alone in life; having any type of partner is very beneficial. As many people have, I have experienced changing relationships and learned how important it is to have a good relationship with the people that you care about. When I was younger, I did not have the greatest relationship with my parents, and their relationship with each other was not good either. We all tried to work on the issues that we had with each other, but it got to the point where I didn’t care much anymore. After leaving home for a while when I went to college, the relationships improved. Now, two years later, everything is a lot better than when I was in high school. I am so grateful for this and I cannot imagine still feeling the same way that I did about our relationships.
