A description and definition of the following two names of God – Elohim and Yahweh

In the bible Elohim has two distinct meanings:-
• The plural form (im and ot are standard Hebrew plural endings) of the word “gods” e.g. Deu.5:2- ‘You shall have no other false god (elohim) before me
• The singular form (when ‘el’ is used for the one True God it is always capitalized – El) e.g. Gen 1:1 – In the beginning Elohim created the heaven and the earth. (Www. The Hebrew name for God)

YAHWEH
Yahweh is used throughout the Old Testament as the personal name of Israel’s God. The true origin of this word was comprised in four Hebrew consonants YHWH called the Tetragrammatons’ - (Y=Yad H=Hay Vav – v in Hebrew can be rendered w in English).
Based on etymology and context scholars agreed that YHWH is an archaic form of the verb ‘to be’ – hawah (Hebrew) and should be translated “I am who I am or I will be who I will be or better yet I am present is what I am - Exodus 3:13-15. (Names of God. ISBE pg 5)

All the names of God were made known to his people at given situations to reveal part of himself in that said situation. A person’s name is the identification mark and it’s what you respond to. More than identification a man’s name may stand as the equal to his very nature and individuality.
The names of God as they are revealed in scripture serve to depict his personality and his attributes.
Elohim (The one true God amongst false gods who created and gives life to everything) seeks to remind us that my origin is not of our parents, grandparents or even Adam, but rather it’s Him. God is the source of our existence and the channel through which we are here is also His doing. Therefore everything that concerns us requires our connection to the source for insight and guidance.
