Elie Wiesel’s use of figurative language was very useful to understand what he meant with most things. For some readers find that figurative language helps when the author means one thing but says another. An example of Elie’s use of figurative language is “…It happened yesterday, or eternities ago…” when he says this he talks about when he was in the ghetto and in a concentration camp. He says “…I remember his bewilderment…” he means when those things happened to him he feels like a different person after to the point where he feels the need to address himself in the third person. Another one is “The fiery alter upon …” which refers to the crematorium and how all of the Jewish religion, history, and their people were murdered with purpose.
