Dreams Activation Synthesis

Many often wonder why do the human population dream. This question is asked more often than it is explained. To a certain degree, sleep and dreams are based on the fact of a powerful human mind that has yet to reveal the purpose of dreaming. Based on theories previously formed in cognitive neuroscience, dreams have been thought of not being biologically functional. Several theories about the concept of dreaming has yet given a significant understanding about the purpose of sleep or the function of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Scientists have argued amongst each other because REM factors have biological function in the human mind, yet dreams serve no real meaning. On the other hand, theories formed about dreams include consistent factors…show more content…
Activation synthesis determines that dreaming is a part of the normal part of sleep mechanisms. During mental activation, he determined that sensory and motored information is passed through passageways to the brain stem. The organization of the sensory and motor perception is organized by the dream into a significant structure, as well as receiving an input from the person's past experiences. Throughout the theory of activation synthesis, it explained more detailed work than any other theory about dreams. The model also gives a highly believed account of the REM sleep. Dreaming that has been underlined by brain mechanisms is a reason why the mind does not remember. Perhaps a constant theory is relatively impossible to have when dealing with the human mind. It is difficult to explain any type of dream because dreams are relatively creative or lack a dominant meaning, therefore having little predictive…show more content…
However, the analyst has the role of understanding the imagery and depicting the condensation, displacement and impression. This allows for the latent meaning of the dream to be revealed. Despite Freud's theory being a popular part of scientific psychology, researchers have concluded that patients with brain damage in the fore brain have shown that our cataleptic desires are abandoned in the dream content. Freud strongly argues the point that dream and dream content are hugely significant in their own frame of mind. The second mechanism, displacement, is where Freud believes that the emotion is attached to an unstable thought and is later replaced into the dream image. Representability looks at the hidden thoughts that are transferred into a mind-blowing context. A dream that has meaning may represent the fear of sensual urges. Freud also believes that dreams have a content where the dreamer reports what has happened. It is then recognized to find more content which is highlighted from the repressed desires. However, Freud also commented on the fact that imagery within dreams do not represent anything. Freud's use of dream analysis is still studied by modern psychoanalysts, although interest in researching the ‘latent dream' is critically slim. Another approach on dreaming is that of Sigmund Freud, who believed that his psycho-dynamic outlook had a direct impact on
