In 1908, the converse rubber corporation of Converse All-Star Chuck Taylor shoes opened. This shoe is the all time best selling basketball shoe and is the most popular one and oldest of all. Sixty percent of Americans have owned at least one pair of these shoes before. Originally, the first company only made galoshes and other rubber shoe related work. They decided to have their work go up in sales every year and since the popularity of basketball and all, they decided to make a shoe that you can wear while playing basketball. In 1917, after much research and development, the very first All-Star basketball shoe was produced, consisting of a thick rubber sole, and upper ankle canvas covering. In 1921, Chuck Taylor joined the Converse sales force, ending up becoming the coach for the Converse All-Stars, the company’s industrial league basketball team. Chuck Taylor in his career, traveled all across the United States promoting the All-Star shoe and hosting basketball clinics. His personal salesmanship and marketing devices put his spark on the sport at all levels. Chuck Taylor was so successful for promoting Converse All Stars and making changes in the design of the shoe that in 1932, his name was added on to the ankle patch. This is when The “Chuck Taylor” All-Star basketball shoe was born and made known. In the 1930’s, Chuck Taylor started designing the white high top model with its red, white, and, blue American patriotic feel to it that became popular along with leather and all black canvas original ones. In the 1936 Olympics, there was a white model of the All-Star Converse shoe that was introduced.
