I think both authors word choices were effective. In the novel "Tick" mainly talks about that ticks are something can freak a person out because of the blood it sucks from a person. Harrison says "to make it surrender what it stole from my child"(34). It shows that a parent become very upset that a pest can steal blood or harm to the child. Therefore the mom in the novel becomes more uspet towards the tick and wants to kill it. People tend to hate pests and want to kill it as soon as possible. Pest can cause a person to beome angry because it causes alot of harm.
