Instead of doing what Jane like John her husband locks her up in a room filled with ugly yellow wallpaper that she hates. The wallpaper being yellow is pretty ironic because yellow is supposed to be a happy bright color and instead it is described as being ugly. Ultimately Jane being locked up in that room and not being able to use her creativity leads her to madness.
The theme in both of “The Dollhouse” and “The Yellow Wallpaper” is simply that being unauthentic leads to a very unhappy life. Nora was fake and not her true self. She pretended to be the perfect wife by being fake. She thought she loved her husband and her life was great. In reality she was not being herself therefore she didn’t even know who she truly was or wanted.
She left her husband after he told her he was upset with her. She then left her husband and her
