Analyzing the Ethical Dilemma
The Brazilian Army follows laws and rules that define it as profession. The ethic in this case are the principles that motivate, discipline and guide the human behavior and reflects the respect for the norms and moral values of an organization. For the Brazilian Army, ethic is the group of rules or standards that guide Soldiers to act with feeling duty, personal honor, stewardship and decorum of the class (Brazilian Army, 2002). For identifying the ethical dilemmas is important use the ethical lenses present in the second step of the ethical process model: “virtue”, “rules”, and “outcomes”. It is relevant to focus in using multiple perspectives to think about ethical concerns, using perspectives to determine the most ethical choice (ADRP 6-22, 2012). The lens “virtue” brings the perspective from the view that desirable virtues such as courage, justice, and benevolence should define ethical concern (ADRP 6-22, 2012). The lens “rules” shows the perspective that establishes of agreed-upon values or rules, such as the Army Values or Constitutional rights (ADRP 6-22, 2012). The lens “outcomes” presents the perspective based in the impacts of the decision on whatever produces the greatest good for the greatest number as most favorable (ADRP 6-22, 2012).
