Literary Elements in the novel, Dracula Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula, is a novel that has been sold worldwide in many different languages and enjoyed by millions. It is a story about the supernatural and more specifically vampires. It was one of if not the novels that made the world love to watch and read about vampires, but at first it was not widely enjoyed. It was not read by mean upon its release, however, today that saying does nothing true. It is a novel wrote in a gothic theme that uses many different literary elements to make its reader stay captivated by its tale. Bram stokers uses literary elements in his novel to express many thoughts and ideas; while using his gothic theme of vampires to give an interesting story. The first major literary element used throughout the story is symbolism. There are many things symbolized in his novel, but the major one is blood. Blood is the main object associated with vampires and vampirism. It is the basis of life for the vampires as they feed off of the blood of young, vibrant souls. In the novel Dracula the theme tends to be gothic. A gothic theme is a theme that focus on the dark, mysterious, and supernatural. The novels has this theme shown throughout, at the very basic the setting gives an odd creepy feeling signature of gothic theme. The setting of an old castle and the stormy nights during which most events occur are examples of the gothic setting in this novel. Dracula himself fits into the gothic theme of a monster. He is a monster that literally drinks the life of another, which fits perfectly with the dark mood of other gothic novels.
