Deep & Wide Book Review The book Deep & Wide by Andy Stanley was absolutely fantastic. The book was solely focused on the idea of making a church for unchurched people. Stanley portrayed many positive aspects of what a church is and how a church should be run. There were also a few things about the book that were very interesting and questionable. Overall, the book was very well written and a very informational read. Deep & Wide is a book about the ministry and church that was started by Andy Stanley in northern Atlanta. Stanley goes through all of the trials and struggles that he had to face in order to get to the point of being a successful church. He gives five different tips on how to help develop a person’s faith in Christ. The five points are: practical teaching, private disciples, personal ministry, providential relationships, and pivotal circumstances. Each one has a place in one’s ministry that can be used. Practical teaching is an idea that every pastor should take to the pulpit. People don’t need a theological debate every Sunday, but rather something that they can apply to their daily lives and use to strengthen one another, themselves, and to bring people into the church. Private disciples is also extremely important. New leaders need to be raised up in the church and one of the most effective ways to do that is to disciples a small amount of people over a long period of time in order to ensure good spiritual leaders for the church and the community. Personal ministry is also important because it gets people involved. It allows people to learn what skills they have and actually apply it. It gives people a sense of reason and a will to come back and even participate more. Providential relationships are extremely important to facilitate a place where good and healthy relationships can be made and then prosper. If someone does not make relationships in the church it is difficult for them to come back. Without friends in the church it makes one feel left out or unwanted. Finally, pivotal circumstances are extremely important. We cannot predict when accidents will happen or when tragedy will strike. We can’t always tell that someone has money issues or a bad home life. It is how the church deals with these different circumstances that defines them. People will run to the church for help and the church needs to not only be able to deal with the initial circumstances, but they also need to be able to walk them through them in a Godly and calm fashion.
