Bob Brown Profile- Full name: Robert (Bob) James Brown Born: 27th December, 1944, Oberon New South Wales Partner: Paul Thomas Quick Facts • Cofounder of the Australian Greens Party • Former leader of the Australian Greens Party- (1992-2012) • Doctor/ Physician • Founder of the Australian Bush Heritage Fund Early Life- Education and Family- Bob Brown attended Trunkey Public School, Coffs Harbour High School and Blacktown Boys High School and was elected school captain in his senior year. He studied medicine at the University of Sydney and achieved a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree. Pre-parliamentary Occupations- Soon after he graduated from university he went to work at many hospitals in Canberra, Darwin, Alice Springs and practised medicine at the Royal Canberra Hospital and in 1970, he travelled to London and worked at the Hounslow Cottage Hospital and the St Mary Abbot’s Hospital as the resident doctor. In 1972, Bob Brown moved to Launceston, Tasmania and worked as a general practitioner. He became a part of the Tasmanian Environmental Movement, and was a strong supporter of campaign to save Lake Pedder. In 2012 Bob Brown was requested to write and autobiography but chose not to write one. Hardie Gran then came to Bob Browns rescue and inspired Bob Brown to write an anecdotes (a short recount of an interesting event) by showing him Tom Costello’s book ‘Hope’. Bob Brown was then influenced by this magical book Hope and Tom Costello and decided to write his own anecdote called ‘Optimist’.
