The battle of Chancellorsville happened April 30th 1966. It took place in the town of Chancellorsville, Virginia. The general of the Union Army was Joseph Hooker. The general of the Confederate Army was Robert E Lee. The Union Army had 115,000 Men, and the Confederate Army had 60,000 Men. The total number of casualties were 26,364 Men, 14,000 from the union and 12,364 from the confederates.
Hooker's troops were down on moral before this battle. Hooker was going to advance on the Confederates and avoid their trenches. He left two thirds of his men at Fredericksburg for a frontal assault on the Confederates. While this was going on Lee was splitting his troops to stay and fight the union in that frontal
